This hand-knotted wool rug from Nepal features a grid of stepped diamonds set in four columns of rectangular panels. The colors shift within each panel from red to gold to rose, a natural variation called abrash that comes from hand-dyed wool and shows the rug was made by hand. The palette of rust, terracotta, saffron, olive, and blush suits mid-century, bohemian, and contemporary interiors.
Hand-knotted rugs are made one knot at a time, which makes them more durable than machine-made rugs. Wool is naturally resilient, stain-resistant, and easy to clean. At 8' x 10', it fits most living rooms and dining rooms, or a large bedroom with room to spare under a bed.
